Langkawi: Lobster Palace

Lobster Palace
Lot 173, SPK 392
Mukim Kuah, 07000 Langkawi
Malaysia
Ph (+60) 04 967 2788

After all our mad shopping in Kuala Lumpur, we relaxed for a couple of days at The Andaman, in Langkawi. While we were there, the well proportioned concierge recommended a restaurant called Lobster Palace, if we were ever in the mood for seafood. This was a man who looked like he knew his food, so we needed no further invitation.

The Andaman was quite a distance from Kuah, so by the time we arrived at Lobster Palace we were quite hungry. The menu was relatively simple, but when you have fresh seafood on offer, you don’t really need much else!

The waitress made some recommendations which sounded good, so we went with those. We ordered:

Special Flavour Lobster - RM$19 per 100g - 1.1kg (RM$209 / $74.64)

Roasted Chicken with Guinness Stout (RM$18 / $6.42 (M))

Foo Yong Egg (RM$12 / $4.28 (M))

Like most places in Malaysia (and to a lesser extent, Singapore), the menu prices didn’t include service charges or Govt taxes.

5% Service Charge, 5% Govt Tax

Total: RM$262.90 / $93.89 (Large dinner for 3 people)

Having never tried it before, I figured this was my chance to get some fresh lobster without it costing a fortune… and luckily I liked it. The pieces of lobster were deep fried and combined with a sweet sauce (not sweet ‘n sour, just not a savoury sauce). I know the purists will be cringing, so next time I try lobster it’ll be the traditional way boiled up.. however they do it.. ok?

The Guinness Stout chicken was quite a strange sounding dish, and if the waitress hadn’t recommended it I would have steered clear. But like the way a lot of beers and bourbons are used in cooking, this one too imparted a rather tasty flavour on the dish. (P.S. Jack Daniels Marinade is a great recipe to use JD for!)

The Foo Yong Egg (vege pancake) was also pretty good, not too much vege to make me feel like i’m a vegetarian, but at the same time I knew I wouldn’t be getting scurvy any time soon. (haha)

And steamed rice. It was… steamed rice. What more can I say? :P

If you’re in Langkawi, do drop by.. it won’t cost you a fortune but it will kill some time - time you’ll have more than enough of if you’re here for a few days.

P.S. Alcohol is duty free in Langkawi too, eg 1 Litre bottle of Absolut Vodka.. AU$11.00. Bargain!

Louis is busy at the moment, and will add his review later
